Senior Assistant Professor Dan of Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology donated a skeleton specimen of the "Amakusa Daio" to the Kumamoto Prefectural Agricultural Research Center.Fukuoka Campus

On Thursday, November 20, 2025, Junji Dan, Senior Assistant Professor Department of Physical Therapy at Teikyo University's Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, donated a skeletal specimen of the Amakusa Daio, a local chicken from Kumamoto Prefecture, to the Kumamoto Prefectural Agricultural Research Center. The specimen was created from a male Amakusa Daio (14 months old, 67 cm tall) provided by the center, and is intended to contribute to education, research, and the local community.
The Amakusa Daio is known as one of the largest free-range chickens in Japan, and this skeletal specimen revealed that compared to regular chickens, the tibia is longer and the diaphysis is thicker, demonstrating the bone density and structural strength that are unique to the original breed. Going forward, the center plans to use this specimen to help with research into breeding management and breed improvement, as well as for PR activities to communicate the appeal of the Amakusa Daio to consumers.
Our university will continue to deepen its ties with the local community through education and research that utilizes local resources.
